Swedish iGaming software developer Play’n GO recently launched its latest hexagonal grid video slot, Diamond Vortex. Grid-slots are an instant hit with casino regulars and were quite a rage in the studio’s previous release, Honey Rush. It’s barely surprising the makers decided to cash in on this new fad.
Diamond Vortex is a space-themed grid-slot, a format popularized by Play’n GO through some of its previous best-sellers. The layout includes three concentric circles that spin and reposition symbols every time players achieve a cascade. The rings have Zones and Spots that trigger an entire range of features like free spins and symbol transformations.
The Core Wild Vortex, placed directly in the grid centre, is the game’s biggest draw, ensuring players encounter at least one Wild per spin. The bonus absorbs any other wilds that might appear on the screen, amplifying the total value.
Diamond Vortex features a 4-5-6-7-6-5-4 grid formation just like Honey Rush. But this time the creators chose deep space as the ideal backdrop. Buy-ins range between €0.20 and €100 per spin and the game is available on a range of devices. Diamond Vortex offers a peak value of 96.20% RTP, although different versions can alter this figure. For best results, always verify in-game specifications before placing a wager.
Zones and Spots demarcate the ring. While Zones are fixed at the top of each ring, Spots rotate starting at the bottom, all the way until a winning sequence. Landing a win triggers the Rotate feature, which moves the innermost ring clockwise, the middle ring anti-clockwise, and the outer ring clockwise. While non-winning symbols move with the rings, new symbols appear within the gaps left by disappearing winning combinations.
Wilds are an equally fascinating feature! Diamond Vortex flaunts two Wilds, Core and Sticky. There is a single Core Wild that sits at the middle of the rings, while Sticky Wilds appear in cascades. If used as part of a winning combination, Sticky Wilds jump to the next ring on the inside, sitting closer to the Core Wild with each consecutive win.
The Sticky Wild reaches the Core Wild triggering the game’s Consume feature, doubling the in-game multiplier for each Sticky Wild consumed henceforth. The creators capped the amplification at 20x, which is still quite an impressive bonus. On starting a new game, the multiplier resets to a 1x total stake.
Up next, Spots can reach the Zones triggering the in-game Transform feature, which like the name suggests, transforms all symbols in the nearest ring into matching pay symbols. While Spots return to the bottom of the grid after triggering Transform in the base game, amplifying bonuses can transform every symbol through all the rings, leading to a massive payout.
Diamond Vortex also has a generic free spin feature, which is triggered every time a bonus symbol reaches the Zone, awarding players with five free spins. However, the Spots don’t return to the starting position between free spins.
